With this project we intend to elaborate a tool for screening, analysis and diagnostics of problems/deviations related to articulatory production European Portuguese sounds. This innovative tool will allow performing all usual assessment procedures in an automatic way. Starting from TAPAC-PE prototype, the development of the this project will follow with the research and collecting of isolated words lists that represent the sounds we want to test as well as their organization in significant groups for sound production and phonological processes assessment. In this project, we will integrate schemes for vowel, diphthongs and consonantal group’s assessment that will complement the consonantal schemes already available.

As it will work as an image naming test, although it can be also used as a reading test, after word selection, we will proceed image search and to image testing within groups of different ages, starting at the age of three, to see how the selected images are recognized how they elicit the intended words.

In order to be able to compare final assessment results with linguistic development stages, we will also integrate data from language acquisition and development stages.

The software allows for audio registering of all sound productions, which permit to assess this data after the assessment moment. So, we decided to create and include an automatic speech recognizer that will function as an auxiliary tool for data description and analysis improving it. With the automatic speech recognizer any person without specific language speech knowledge will be able to make rigorous data descriptions. For instance, it can also be used by students of European Portuguese as a second language to practice their own production of sounds in this language.

For transforming TAPAC-PE prototype in the final product (TAPAPE), it is necessary to perform a profound programming revision, in order to correct some errors, to facilitate procedures and to integrate the features. This restructuring process will also affect software graphics design, to turn it more user-friendly.

As a final result we will have an assessment tool for articulatory production completely automatic in what concerns data collecting, data analysis an data report, by speech therapists, teachers (L1 and L2), students of European Portuguese (L2), parents, psychologists, medicals, health technicians that assess literate or non-literate subjects starting from the age of three.
